ABOUT
The acoustic, roots, singer-songwriter today is struggling to maintain their art. There is a tremendous shortage of venues that are tailored for this genre. A 'folk night' or open mic at a bar does not cut it. Just to put food on the table these artists are performing at House Concerts. Wonderful and intimate gatherings in peoples homes. If you frequent these, you know!
Our idea is a simple one, we are looking to take the House Concert concept and blow it up so to speak. A small intimate room, with a top notch sound system, where 30-50 people can come and enjoy an evening of pure musical vibes. Not a restaurant, not a bar, no distractions from the stage and performer. ‘The Living Room’ is to be a somewhat rural alternative to what is rarely available in the city and a great sounding alternative to a house concert (without losing the intimacy). The Living Room is located within The Farm Rehearsal Studios, a state of the art rehearsal facility in Markham. Once a month we transform one of the larger rehearsal studios into The Living Room. We are hoping that having a monthly event to start, and building on that, we will eventually open up a larger (75-100 person) performance hall. Ultimately, our vision is to offer a place where each performers CD’s and or swag is available for sale not just on the night of the performance but on an ongoing basis. A monthly E-newsletter would go out announcing future events, tours and shows. Also in discussion is the potential for Live Streaming selected events and have them archived for purchase or download. (of course with Artist/label cooperation)
In a nutshell, a hub or headquarters that is all about the music. A place where an audience who have the passion and a hunger for the pure Singer/ Songwriter and great traditional acoustic music can find it! I am convinced that there are many of us out there, and am hoping you would be interested in helping us establish the Farm House Concert Series at : ‘The Living Room’
Musically yours,
